BodyTite uses radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis: controlled heat liquefies and coagulates localised fat and, at the same time, produces retraction of the skin and restructuring of the collagen. That double action is what sets it apart from techniques that act on only one of the two.
It is indicated for accumulations of localised fat with moderate loss of firmness — arms, abdomen, double chin and neck, inner thighs and knees — and not for obesity, clotting disorders or active skin disease.
It is a minimally invasive procedure: a cannula is introduced through an incision of two or three millimetres, under local anaesthetic or light sedation, and it takes between thirty minutes and two hours depending on the area treated. A compression garment is fitted at the end.
Recovery takes one to two days in small areas such as the double chin or the arms, and can extend to ten in the abdomen or thighs. The compression garment is worn for at least two weeks and strenuous exercise is avoided for the first seven days.
Results begin to show from the third or fourth week and keep improving over the following three to six months, as the collagen restructures. In the first few days, swelling, mild bruising and discomfort in the area are all to be expected.
At the Instituto de Cirugía Plástica del Mediterráneo, in Valencia, we offer an advanced solution for those who want to remove localised fat and improve skin laxity without undergoing traditional surgery. It is BodyTite, an innovative technique based on minimally invasive bipolar radiofrequency, ideal for redefining the body contour with visible, safe results and short recovery times.
Would you like to book a consultation to have your case assessed?
BodyTite is a medical-aesthetic procedure that uses a technology known as radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis (RFAL). This technique dissolves localised fat and, at the same time, tightens the treated skin. By emitting bipolar energy it generates controlled heat that acts deep in the dermis, the fatty tissue and the subcutaneous connective tissue.
The thermal energy applied during the treatment produces three simultaneous effects:
It liquefies and coagulates the fat.
It stimulates retraction of the skin, helping to tighten it effectively.
It restructures the collagen and the dermal fibres, which improves the firmness and the quality of the skin.
The great advantage of BodyTite over other aesthetic procedures is its double action: it removes fat and improves laxity, something the traditional methods do not achieve separately. That is why it is considered a modern alternative or complement to surgical liposuction, particularly in patients looking for results with minimal aggression and a quick recovery.
The areas of the body most treated with BodyTite
One of the main strengths of BodyTite is its versatility. It can be applied to different areas of the body, adapting to what each patient specifically needs. The most frequently treated areas include:
Arms: to improve triceps laxity, commonly known as “bingo wings”.
Abdomen: ideal for reducing localised fat and improving skin tone after pregnancy or weight loss.
Double chin and neck: it defines the jaw angle and removes the double chin without open surgery.
Inner thighs: it helps tighten lax skin and improve the contour.
Knees: to remove accumulations of fat that are difficult to treat with exercise or diet.
The decision about which areas to treat is taken after an individual medical assessment, looking at the condition of the skin, the amount of localised fat and the patient’s expectations.
Ideal candidates for BodyTite
This treatment is indicated for people with localised accumulations of fat and a moderate loss of firmness in the skin. It is particularly recommended in the following cases:
People with laxity after significant weight loss.
Women after pregnancy who want to recover their abdominal tone.
Patients who do not wish to undergo conventional surgery such as liposuction.
Men with mild gynaecomastia or accumulations in the abdominal area.
It is not indicated in people with obesity, clotting problems, active skin disease or certain medical conditions that make thermal procedures inadvisable.
The energy is not applied on the skin or beneath it, but between the two. A cannula advances through the fat just beneath the skin, an external electrode follows it from outside, and what heats up is the band of tissue in between. Hence the double action: it liquefies the fat and retracts the skin in the same movement, which is what a technique acting on only one plane cannot do. The cannula is introduced through an incision of two or three millimetres, and the procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic or light sedation. How the BodyTite procedure is carried out
The treatment is carried out in a controlled clinical setting and under medical supervision. It generally requires no hospital stay and is done under local anaesthetic or light sedation, although it can also be done under general anaesthesia in combination with other procedures, depending on the area and the volume treated.
The steps of the procedure are as follows:
Initial assessment and marking of the area to be treated.
Applying local anaesthetic to avoid discomfort during the process.
Inserting the internal cannula through a small incision of 2 or 3 mm.
Emitting controlled radiofrequency, which acts from inside and outside simultaneously.
Aspirating the liquefied fat, if the case calls for it.
Fitting a girdle or compression garment at the end.
The procedure takes between 30 minutes and 2 hours depending on the area treated and on whether it is combined with liposuction.
Recovery and expected results
One of the great advantages of BodyTite is how quickly the patient can return to normal life. In small areas, such as the double chin or the arms, recovery usually takes one to two days. In larger areas, such as the abdomen or the thighs, time off can extend to ten days.
During the first few days it is common to notice some swelling, mild bruising and slight discomfort in the treated area — all normal effects that settle within a few days. We recommend:
Wearing a compression garment for at least two weeks.
Avoiding strenuous physical exercise for the first 7 days.
Sleeping with the treated area raised if it is the face or the neck.
Attending the reviews scheduled by the specialist.
Results begin to show from three or four weeks, and improve gradually over the following three to six months, as the collagen restructures and the skin gains firmness.
The benefits of BodyTite
The benefits of this treatment are both aesthetic and functional:
Reduction of localised fat without open surgery.
Improvement of skin laxity, even in difficult areas.
A more defined, more harmonious body contour.
Stimulation of natural collagen, which extends the results.
Minimal, practically invisible scars.
A short recovery time with no need for hospital admission.
Natural, gradual results, with no artificial look.
BodyTite can also be combined with other treatments such as FaceTite (for facial areas), Morpheus8 (for extra skin firming) or regenerative therapies with PRP, to enhance its effects.
How much is reduced and how much is tightened
The argument for this technology is that it does two things at once: it removes fat and gets the skin to retract. The second part is the one worth measuring, because it is what separates this from conventional liposuction.
The largest published series deals with the area where it shows most, the arms: 120 patients with six-month follow-up. The results:
Average arm circumference from 27.3 cm to 23.55 cm: a reduction of 3.75 cm, or 13.7%.
Satisfaction from 35% beforehand to 87% at six months.
And the figure that best sums it up: no patient subsequently needed an arm lift, that is, the surgery that leaves a scar. Residual laxity remained in 13% of cases, but not enough to require an operation.
An earlier study had measured the retraction in another way, on the surface of the skin itself: the inner arm reduced its area by 33.5% on average and the hanging «flap» shortened by around 50%. That same study also marks the honest limit of the technique: cases with significant excess skin did need surgery as well. Radiofrequency tightens skin; it does not replace removing it when there is genuinely too much.
That is why the useful conversation in the consulting room is not about the device but about how much skin there is to spare. That is where it is decided whether this is enough or whether something else is needed.

It is a liposuction with an added step. The fat is aspirated as in a conventional liposuction and, in addition, radiofrequency is applied beneath the skin with the intention of making the tissue retract so that the skin is tighter than it would be with aspiration alone.
That addition answers a known limitation of classic liposuction: it removes fat very well and can do little about skin laxity. Hence the development of energy technologies to accompany it.
How much does it really tighten the skin?
Something, and in all honesty less than it is usually credited with. The literature on radiofrequency-assisted liposuction acknowledges that its capacity for retraction exists but that its reproducibility and its efficiency remain variable: not every patient responds the same way or to the same energy.
A 2026 prospective study of 100 patients compared two ways of delivering that energy and found significant differences in the total energy used and in complications according to the technique, with high satisfaction measured using a validated questionnaire. It is an observational study, not a randomised trial, and its own authors call for controlled studies.
The practical conclusion: it is useful to accompany a liposuction when the skin still has the capacity to retract. It is not useful as a substitute for surgery to remove skin.
Can it save me from an abdominoplasty or an arm lift?
If what you have too much of is fat and the skin is good, it may well do, and that is its best indication. If what you have too much of is skin, no: no amount of energy removes skin, and forcing the indication produces the result nobody wants — an emptied area with the skin just as loose, or worse.
That boundary is what is decided at the assessment, by examining you and pulling the skin, and it cannot be decided from a photograph. It is also, by some distance, the most important conversation of the first consultation.
Does it hurt? What anaesthetic is used?
It is done under anaesthetic — local with sedation, or general, depending on the case, the areas and the volume — and no pain is felt during the procedure. There is discomfort afterwards, of the kind that follows a liposuction: soreness, a feeling of intense stiffness, swelling and bruises that change colour over weeks.
The compression garment is part of the treatment, not an accessory.
What are the risks?
Those of a liposuction — bruising, seroma, infection, contour irregularities, asymmetry, altered sensation — plus one that belongs to the energy: burns. Applying radiofrequency beneath the skin carries a risk of thermal injury if the temperature control fails or if the technique is not right, and it can affect both the skin and the tissue underneath.
That risk is why who does it and with what temperature-control system matter, and it is a perfectly reasonable question at any consultation.
When is the result visible?
Not straight away. The swelling from a liposuction takes weeks to settle and the contour result beds in over months; the retraction of the skin, if it happens, is slower still. Judging it at one month is judging it half-finished.
And the result holds as long as the weight does: the fat cells removed do not come back, but the ones left behind can grow.
