Shortens the upper lip once it has lengthened and stopped showing the lip border and the teeth, through an incision hidden in the natural crease where the nose meets the lip. At ICPM the indication is assessed by measuring the length of the philtrum and setting it against the proportions of each face: there are long faces in which a longer lip is still in keeping.
It is done under local anaesthetic as a day case, takes about an hour, and the skin sutures come out after seven days. The scar is unavoidable and sits hidden at the base of the nose: it is looked after under the clinic’s scar protocol, with daily sun protection and laser sessions at one, two and three months.
