These are micro-injections of active ingredients into the superficial dermis: hyaluronic acid, vitamins, amino acids, organic silicon, DMAE or even platelet-rich plasma, depending on the case.
It is used on the face, the body and the scalp: facial texture and hydration, cellulite, firmness after weight change, stretch marks and scars, and non-hormonal hair loss.
A session lasts between 10 and 30 minutes, with anaesthetic cream and very fine needles, and requires no time off. Afterwards: 24 hours out of direct sun, no make-up for the first few hours and no strenuous exercise.
Results arrive from the fifth or sixth session onwards. The usual courses are 5–8 sessions on the face, 8–12 on the body or for cellulite and 6–10 on the scalp, with maintenance every three or six months.
It is not a substitute for surgery: with severe laxity or stubborn fat it does not replace a surgical procedure. It is not carried out where there is allergy to the active ingredients, active skin disease, infection or fever, autoimmune or clotting disorders, pregnancy and breastfeeding, or in a cancer patient on active treatment.
At the Instituto de Cirugía Plástica del Mediterráneo we are specialists in advanced aesthetic medicine treatments, with extensive experience in mesotherapy in Valencia. This non-surgical procedure improves the quality of the skin, tackles cellulite, reduces localised fat and produces a rejuvenating effect that is visible from the first few sessions. Below we explain everything you need to know if you are considering mesotherapy at our centre.

What is mesotherapy and how does it work on your skin?
Mesotherapy is a medical-aesthetic technique that consists of infiltrating active ingredients into the superficial dermis through micro-injections. The aim is to stimulate cell regeneration, improve circulation and activate the local metabolism, giving firmer, more elastic and more even skin.
The body treatments we offer are not in competition with one another: they work on different tissues. Pressotherapy, manual lymphatic drainage and the Renata França method act from outside — the first with pressurised air, the other two by hand — and their effect is on fluid: they push the lymph towards the nodes. Mesotherapy infiltrates active ingredients into the superficial dermis, and carboxytherapy introduces medicinal CO₂ into the subcutaneous tissue. INDIBA infiltrates nothing: it raises the temperature of the tissue from within, with a more superficial capacitive mode and a deeper resistive one. Knowing which acts where is what allows them to be combined with judgement rather than simply stacked. It can be applied both to the face and to different areas of the body. Depending on the type of treatment, different substances are used: hyaluronic acid, vitamins, amino acids, organic silicon, DMAE or even platelet-rich plasma (PRP), according to what the patient needs.
The technique is carried out with very fine needles under topical anaesthesia, and requires neither time off work nor rest afterwards.
What benefits does mesotherapy offer?
This treatment is highly valued for its ability to improve a number of skin problems without surgery. The main benefits include:
Facial rejuvenation: it improves the texture, the hydration and the tone of the skin of the face, corrects fine lines and restores its natural radiance.
Reduction of cellulite: by activating the microcirculation and the lymphatic drainage, mesotherapy works effectively against “orange-peel skin”.
Firming of the skin: it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, improving the firmness and elasticity of the skin in areas such as the arms, abdomen or thighs.
Reduction of localised fat: it acts directly on the adipocytes, helping to break them down without affecting the surrounding tissues.
Treatment of stretch marks and scars: it contributes to skin repair and improves the texture in areas with visible marks.
Improved blood circulation: it helps to oxygenate the tissues and reduces fluid retention.
Effective scalp application: infiltrated into the scalp, it activates the hair follicles and slows hair loss.
Who is mesotherapy indicated for?
Mesotherapy is recommended for people who wish to improve the condition of their skin or reshape their silhouette gradually and without resorting to invasive procedures. It is an excellent option for:
Women and men who want to rejuvenate their face without surgery.
People with cellulite or localised fat in specific areas.
Patients with lax skin or loss of firmness after weight change or ageing.
Those looking for an improvement in stretch marks, scars or marks on the skin.
Patients with non-hormonal hair loss.
Before starting treatment, a medical assessment is carried out to evaluate the condition of the skin and the patient’s clinical history, and to rule out possible contraindications.
Are there any contraindications?
Although this is a safe and well-tolerated procedure, mesotherapy is not recommended in the following cases:
Known allergies to any of the active ingredients used.
Active skin disease in the area to be treated.
Acute infections or febrile illness.
Autoimmune diseases or clotting disorders.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Cancer patients on active treatment.
At our clinic this exclusion protocol is followed rigorously to guarantee the greatest possible safety.
What is a mesotherapy session like?
Each session lasts approximately 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the area treated. It begins by cleansing the skin and applying an anaesthetic cream to keep discomfort to a minimum. The practitioner then carries out the micro-injections precisely.
Once the session is over, you can go straight back to your daily routine. We recommend avoiding direct sun exposure, wearing make-up in the first few hours and strenuous physical exercise for the following 24 hours.
Depending on the goal, the number of sessions varies:
Facial mesotherapy: 5 to 8 sessions.
Body or anti-cellulite mesotherapy: between 8 and 12 sessions.
Scalp mesotherapy: 6 to 10 sessions, depending on the degree of hair loss.
Once the initial course is complete, maintenance sessions every three or six months are recommended.
When are the results noticeable?
The effects begin to be visible from the fifth or sixth session. On the face, the skin looks better hydrated, with better texture and radiance. On the body, there is a gradual reduction in cellulite, greater firmness of the skin and a more defined contour.
On the scalp, the results are seen in the density, shine and strength of the hair once the course is complete.
It is worth stressing that the effectiveness of the treatment depends on several factors: age, the condition of the skin, the patient’s habits, consistency with the sessions and the quality of the active ingredients used.
What the published evidence says
It is worth setting expectations properly, particularly for the body indication. An evidence-based review published in the American Journal of Clinical Dermatology, which analysed 67 papers on cellulite treatments, concluded that no clear evidence of good efficacy could be identified for any of the treatments evaluated, with limited potential benefit only for acoustic wave therapy and for the minimally invasive 1440 nm Nd:YAG laser (PMID 25940753).
That does not invalidate mesotherapy, but it does clarify what we indicate it for and what we do not. Where it makes most sense is in the quality of the skin — hydration, texture, radiance — taking advantage of the fact that the active ingredients are deposited exactly where they need to act, and as a complement within a plan. As a stand-alone treatment for cellulite or localised fat, expectations should be modest: that is why this page says it is not a substitute for surgery and that the results appear from the fifth or sixth session, not the first.
The modality with the most precise measurements is facial mesotherapy with non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid. A randomised, blinded trial in 55 women used the most demanding design possible — one cheek with the product and the other with saline, on the same face — and measured with instruments, not by eye: elasticity improved by 10.9% at one month and was maintained at three, and the thickness of the dermis increased by 4% at three months. The authors conclude that it significantly and durably improves the elasticity and the radiance of the skin.
A later multicentre trial with 146 participants points the same way: a significant reduction in superficial wrinkles around the eyes, on the neck and on the décolletage at 75 and at 120 days, improved hydration, and mild adverse effects that resolved within 48 hours.
That is the indication with the most published support: skin quality. The body applications of mesotherapy have a more scattered literature, which is why they are considered separately, with their own assessment and their own expectations.

Is mesotherapy painful?
Thanks to the use of topical anaesthesia and very fine needles, the treatment causes very little discomfort. Some areas may give a slight discomfort or temporary redness.
Does mesotherapy replace cosmetic surgery?
No. Although it gives results, it does not replace surgical procedures in cases of severe laxity or stubborn fat. It is ideal for preventing, improving or maintaining results.
How much does mesotherapy cost in Valencia?
The price varies according to the area, the type of active ingredients used and the number of sessions needed. At our clinic we give individual quotations after the first medical assessment.
Can I combine it with other treatments?
Yes. Mesotherapy can be combined with treatments such as radiofrequency, carboxytherapy or PRP to enhance the effects.
