It is not classic lymphatic drainage: it is applied with firm pressure and a steady rhythm, and combines lymphatic activation with contour-reshaping movements. The original protocol includes 97 specific manoeuvres.
The session lasts 60 to 90 minutes, needs no preparation or recovery, and its effects — less volume at the waist and legs, relief from heaviness — are usually noticeable from the first one.
It is indicated for fluid retention, heavy legs, visible cellulite, postoperative swelling and preparation for or recovery from aesthetic surgery; in that last case, always with the doctor’s authorisation.
A single session may be enough for a one-off result; keeping the effect requires a protocol of several sessions, spaced according to the specialist’s judgement.
It is not a substitute for medical treatment, and the result depends on the training of whoever applies it: badly applied, it can be ineffective or even harmful.
At the Instituto de Cirugía Plástica del Mediterráneo in Valencia we offer the exclusive Renata França drainage method, a massage technique recognised internationally for its immediate effects on body reshaping, the reduction of oedema and the activation of the lymphatic system. This treatment combines the best of lymphatic drainage with sculpting massage movements, delivering benefits for the body that are both aesthetic and functional.

Renata França drainage is a technique created by the Brazilian beauty therapist of the same name. Unlike classic lymphatic drainage, this method is applied with firm pressure, a steady rhythm and movements that combine activation of the lymphatic system with reshaping of the body contour. It is based on a protocol that includes 97 specific manoeuvres, applied by hand to different areas of the body.
The aim is to encourage the clearance of retained fluid, toxins and metabolic waste that build up between the tissues. By activating lymphatic and blood circulation, the result is a visible improvement in skin texture, less swelling and an overall feeling of lightness and wellbeing.
The body treatments we offer are not in competition with one another: they work on different tissues. Pressotherapy, manual lymphatic drainage and the Renata França method act from outside — the first with pressurised air, the other two by hand — and their effect is on fluid: they push the lymph towards the nodes. Mesotherapy infiltrates active ingredients into the superficial dermis, and carboxytherapy introduces medicinal CO₂ into the subcutaneous tissue. INDIBA infiltrates nothing: it raises the temperature of the tissue from within, with a more superficial capacitive mode and a deeper resistive one. Knowing which acts where is what allows them to be combined with judgement rather than simply stacked. In Valencia, the Instituto de Cirugía Plástica del Mediterráneo is one of the centres that applies this technique with every guarantee of quality, through certified practitioners. Choosing a centre with experience and specific training is key to obtaining the expected results and avoiding imitations that do not meet the method’s standards.
Our patients receive not just an aesthetic treatment but an intervention that contributes to their health and to the balance of their body. That is why we recommend this treatment in cases of:
fluid retention,
a feeling of heavy legs,
visible cellulite,
postoperative swelling,
accumulated stress,
preparation for or recovery from aesthetic surgical procedures.
The benefits of Renata França drainage
The effects of Renata França drainage are noticeable from the first session, although its effectiveness increases with successive ones. The most notable benefits include:
Less oedema and body volume: the pressure applied and the direction of the movements encourage lymphatic return, which reduces the build-up of fluid in areas prone to swelling, such as the legs, abdomen and arms.
A visible reduction in cellulite: by improving circulation and mobilising the subcutaneous tissues, the structure of the fat deposits that create the orange-peel appearance is broken up.
Activation of the metabolism: moving retained fluid encourages venous and lymphatic return in the treated area.
A manual liposculpture effect: the visual results are similar to those of a non-invasive aesthetic treatment, redefining the silhouette without a scalpel.
A feeling of lightness and wellbeing: many patients report an immediate improvement in physical comfort, particularly in the legs and abdomen.
Stimulation of the lymphatic system: it encourages the drainage of fluid accumulated between the tissues.
The Miracle Touch massage protocol
One of the best-known variants of the Renata França method is the Miracle Touch massage. It is a specific combination of lymphatic drainage and sculpting massage, adapted to each patient according to their build and needs. The protocol alternates deep-pressure movements, pumping and precise gliding strokes, at a steady rhythm that activates the internal systems without causing pain.
Each session lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. It needs no preparation beforehand and no recovery time, which makes it ideal for patients who want visible results in a short time without disrupting their daily routine.
Results from the first session
One of the things patients value most is how quickly the effects of Renata França drainage are felt. From the first session it is common to notice:
less volume at the waist and legs,
firmer, smoother skin,
better muscle tone,
relief from heaviness and fatigue,
a general sense of wellbeing.
Unlike other aesthetic treatments, this method works from inside the body, mobilising the circulatory and lymphatic systems, which allows for real, lasting, progressive results.
Indications and recommendations
This treatment is ideal for people with symptoms of fluid retention, cellulite, swelling or inflammation. It is also suitable after surgery, provided the doctor authorises it. Renata França drainage is not a substitute for medical treatment, but it is an excellent complement for improving the body’s general condition.
All three move fluid, but they are not interchangeable. Manual lymphatic drainage does it by hand with gentle, slow, repetitive pressure, following the route of the lymphatic system towards the nodes; it is the one indicated in lymphoedema and after plastic surgery. The Renata França method is also manual, but with firm pressure and its own protocol of 97 manoeuvres that adds contour reshaping to the drainage. Pressotherapy is not applied by a person but by a machine: a pneumatic suit that compresses sequentially from the limbs towards the centre of the body. The machine compresses, but it does not choose the route, so it does not do the same as trained hands; even so, in lymphoedema there are randomised trials in which decongestive therapy carried out with pneumatic compression and bandaging alone was not inferior to therapy that includes manual drainage. To make sure the treatment is effective, we recommend:
drinking enough water before and after the session,
avoiding food high in sodium on the day of the drainage,
combining the treatment with healthy habits,
not doing intense physical activity immediately after the massage.
How many sessions you need will also depend on each patient’s goal. For those looking for a one-off result, a single session may be enough. Those who want to maintain results over the long term usually follow a protocol of several sessions, spaced according to the specialist’s instructions.
Certification and professionalism: a guarantee of results
The success of Renata França drainage depends to a large extent on the training of the practitioner applying it. At our centre, every treatment is carried out by specialists with official training in the Renata França method, following the original protocol and respecting the principles of the technique.
Avoiding uncertified versions of the treatment is essential. A badly applied massage can be not only ineffective but actually harmful. That is why we always recommend going to centres that can demonstrate their experience and training.
Is it a purely aesthetic treatment?
Although it is popular for its visible benefits, Renata França drainage has a real impact on the patient’s health. Activating lymphatic circulation helps move retained fluid and contributes to the feeling of lightness and wellbeing.
That makes it an excellent option both for people looking to improve their appearance and for those who want to look after their health in a natural, non-invasive way. It has in fact become a routine therapeutic tool in advanced aesthetic medicine, and more and more people are building it into their self-care routines.
What the published evidence says
Here it is worth being transparent, because it is not what the pages offering this treatment usually do: the Renata França method has no published clinical studies of its own. It is a protocol created by a Brazilian beauty therapist and distributed internationally as a brand since 2016, not a technique born of clinical research. What you find when you look it up are the pages of the centres that apply it, not trials.
What has been studied is what it rests on: manual lymphatic drainage and compression. On manual drainage there are trials showing faster regression of postoperative oedema and a meta-analysis which, by contrast, does not find that it prevents lymphoedema on its own. That evidence supports the principles of drainage, not the figures or the promises attached to any particular brand.
So we present it for what it is: a drainage massage with its own protocol and firm pressure, pleasant, with an immediate effect on the sensation of swelling and on lightness, and complementary to medical treatments. If what you need is treatment for lymphoedema or for a complex recovery after surgery, what that calls for is a clinical plan with follow-up, not a branded protocol.
At our clinic in Valencia we specialise in comprehensive aesthetic treatments, combining internationally recognised techniques with a rigorous, personalised medical approach. Renata França drainage is part of what we offer because we know that beauty begins with internal balance.
We work with verified protocols, supporting technology and professional follow-up. We also offer you an initial assessment with no obligation, to determine whether this treatment is right for you.

It is manual lymphatic drainage with its own protocol and a school behind it: defined movements, a set order and a faster rhythm with more pressure than classic drainage. The existence of certified training has a practical advantage that is not always appreciated: two sessions given by two practitioners trained in the method resemble one another, which is not the case with a generic “draining massage”.
What that intensity is aiming for is a more marked movement of fluid in less time. Many people describe it as a feeling of immediate lightness when they get up off the couch.
What is known about manual lymphatic drainage as a technique?
Two things that are best held together.
The first is that its safety profile is excellent. A systematic review of eight randomised trials with 463 participants, in the context of recovery after knee surgery, recorded not a single adverse effect related to the treatment. It is a finding that is rarely put first and that matters: this is a technique with which it is very hard to do harm if the person applying it knows what they are doing.
The second is that its measured effect is modest and early. In that same review, two of the studies described modest, short-lived benefits in the first few days after surgery, with no consistent improvement in pain or mobility over the medium term. The authors conclude that, given its safety, it makes sense as an adjunct within a broader programme and to improve comfort, particularly in people who tolerate exercise poorly.
That, honestly, is where this technique belongs: it improves how you feel, and it does so early and without risk. That is no small thing, and it is what can be said without overstating it.
What can I expect from the first session?
What you notice first is the sensation: lightness, less heaviness and, often, less visible swelling. It is a real effect, it is what makes people come back, and it is temporary, because what has been moved is fluid.
What does not happen in a single session is a change in body composition. If you measure centimetres before and after, that difference is displaced fluid, not lost fat. Saying so does not take away from the treatment: it puts it where it belongs, which is wellbeing and swelling.
Does it hurt?
It is more intense than classic drainage and some people describe it as uncomfortable during certain movements, particularly the first time or on sensitive areas. It should not be painful, and if it is, say so during the session and the pressure will be adjusted.
It is normal to be left with small bruises if an area has been worked firmly. If you bruise easily, tell whoever is treating you: that is a reason to lower the intensity, not to put up with it.
Does it work after surgery?
The method has a specific protocol for recovery after surgery and that is one of the main reasons people seek it out. It fits well with what the evidence says about manual drainage: high safety and a benefit in comfort during the first few days, which is exactly when it is most appreciated.
The rule, though, is the same as with any technique: when to start, at what intensity and for how long is decided by the surgeon who operated, and the regimen is tailored to how each case is progressing and to each patient’s situation. A practitioner who is going to treat you after surgery should ask you for the surgical report and know exactly what was done.
When should it NOT be done?
The same contraindications as any drainage, and all the more so because of the greater pressure: active thrombosis or suspicion of it, acute infection or inflammation, decompensated heart failure, severe kidney failure, active cancer without prior assessment, open wounds and clotting disorders or anticoagulant treatment. In pregnancy, individual assessment.
And one of its own: if you have just had surgery and still have stitches or drains, this is not something to be decided at a massage centre.
