Description
Self-activating 10% vitamin C powder from ZO Skin Health. Pure ascorbic acid oxidises as soon as it touches water, so here it comes as a powder and is activated by mixing it in your hand.
What it does
Vitamin C has two distinct roles, and they should not be confused. As an antioxidant, it neutralises free radicals generated by the sun and pollution—it works with sunscreen, not instead of it. As a brightening agent, it helps even out the look of skin tone.
The classic problem with ascorbic acid is that it is unstable: as soon as it dissolves it starts to oxidise, and a serum that turns yellow has already lost some of its activity. Presenting it as a powder stops that clock: the formula is only activated at the moment of application.
It also contains tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, a stable, fat-soluble derivative of vitamin C, so it combines the potency of the pure acid with a form that lasts.
Who it is for
Dull skin with pigmentation or accumulated sun damage that wants a high-concentration vitamin C without the oxidation problem. If your skin is reactive, pure 10% vitamin C may sting for the first few days.
Key ingredients
- Ascorbic acid 10% — pure vitamin C, the form with the most studies; exfoliates surface pigment and evens out tone
- Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate — a stable, fat-soluble vitamin C derivative that penetrates the lipid layer better
- Squalane — a lipid identical to the one the skin itself produces; hydrates and offsets the dryness of the acid
- Tocopheryl acetate and coenzyme Q10 — vitamin E and ubiquinone: reinforce antioxidant protection
