What sets it apart is that it is designed as a protocol, not as separate products. Its retinols come in three concentrations—0.25%, 0.5% and 1%—precisely so you can move up step by step without your skin complaining, and its cleansers are graded from the gentlest to the exfoliating one according to what each skin tolerates.
It is the brand we turn to when something specific needs correcting and maintaining over time: texture, pigmentation, enlarged pores, redness. It is also the one that needs the most guidance: here it is easy to buy the right product in the wrong concentration.
If you come from a consultation with us, your regimen already tells you which product and in what order. If not, start with the basics—cleanser, antioxidant, sunscreen—and move up to retinol afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
Why are there three different retinols: 0.25%, 0.5% and 1%?
Because retinol is not chosen on the basis of “the stronger, the better”, but on what your skin tolerates today. You start with 0.25%, move up when your skin handles it without peeling, and some skin never needs to go beyond that. Starting at 1% is the quickest way to end up irritated and give up.
Can I use ZO Skin Health if I have sensitive skin or redness?
Yes, but not with just any product in the line. For reactive skin we work with Rozatrol and the gentle cleansers, and leave out the exfoliants and the higher retinols. If you have diagnosed rosacea, it is better with medical guidance: a cosmetic does not treat it.
Is it the same as Obagi Medical?
No. They are two different brands with different formulas, even though both come from the same surname. What we sell here is ZO Skin Health, Dr Zein Obagi’s current line.
