3 sessions of biostimulation with Sculptra. Poly-L-lactic acid: it does not fill, it makes your skin produce its own collagen over months.
What it involves
Sculptra is not a filler in the usual sense. A hyaluronic acid filler occupies a volume, and that volume is visible the same day; poly-L-lactic acid does something else: it is injected, triggers a controlled inflammatory response, and the fibroblasts respond by making collagen around the particles, which are gradually reabsorbed.
Hence its two defining features. The first is that the result is gradual: you do not see it as you leave the clinic; it builds up over weeks and months. The second is that what remains is your own tissue, which is why it lasts a long time—studies speak of up to two years—compared with a filler.
It is a product with a long track record: it was originally approved for HIV-associated facial lipoatrophy, and from there it moved into aesthetic use.
Who it is for
Overall loss of volume and skin quality, especially in the middle third of the face. It is for people who want a gradual, natural change, not an immediate result. The prior assessment is mandatory.
What a session is like
It is injected with a needle or cannula after topical anaesthetic, at several points in the area. It takes about 30-45 minutes. There may be swelling and some bruising for a few days. After the session you need to massage the area following the instructions we give you: it is not optional, it reduces the risk of nodules.
What to expect
The three sessions are spaced about four to six weeks apart. The result starts to show around the second month and keeps improving until the sixth. Patience is needed: it is part of the treatment.
What it does NOT do
It does not replace a facelift or correct descent of the tissues. And it does not give an immediate result: if you want to see the change this week, this is not the treatment for you.
When it cannot be done. It is not done during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infection in the area, with a history of granulomatous reactions or keloids, or over areas with permanent filler. The characteristic risk of this product is subcutaneous nodules and papules; massage afterwards and correct technique reduce it, but you need to know about it before deciding.
