What it involves
Morpheus8 combines two things that already work separately: microneedling, which creates microchannels and triggers the repair response, and radiofrequency, which heats the tissue and contracts the existing collagen fibres while stimulating the synthesis of new collagen.
The advantage of delivering the radiofrequency from the tips of the needles is that the heat is deposited where it is needed—in the dermis and, at the greater depths, in the subdermal tissue—while the epidermis is relatively protected. That makes it possible to treat higher phototypes than with an ablative laser, with less risk of hyperpigmentation.
The available evidence shows improvements in mild and moderate laxity, texture and acne scars, with a short recovery. It is a medical procedure and should be approached as one.
Who it is for
Mild or moderate laxity, especially in the lower third of the face and the neck, uneven texture and acne scars. The prior assessment is mandatory before the first session.
What a session is like
Topical anaesthetic is applied about 45 minutes beforehand. The session lasts between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the area; you feel heat and pricking, uncomfortable but tolerable. When you leave, the skin is red and a little swollen, with marks from the tip that disappear in a couple of days.
What to expect
The first change is noticeable within a few weeks, but the important part comes later: new collagen takes between three and six months to organise itself. The three sessions are spaced about four weeks apart.
What it does NOT do
It is not a facelift. If the laxity is already structural or there is excess skin, radiofrequency will not solve it, and we will tell you so at the assessment instead of selling you a course that will not help you.
When it cannot be done. It is not done during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with a pacemaker or another implanted electronic device, with active infection in the area, after recent isotretinoin, or with a history of keloids. Nor over permanent filler or non-absorbable injected material.
