Description
Sports-style post-surgical bra with a front zip. The zip at the front is what sets it apart: it goes on and comes off without raising your arms.
What it is for
Raising your arms above your head is exactly what you cannot do in the first few weeks after breast surgery: it pulls on the stitches and it hurts. A bra that opens at the front solves that, and it is why many patients prefer it even when they are not wearing a band.
A post-surgical bra supports the weight of the breasts so that they do not pull on the scars, and it contains the oedema. No underwire, because the wire rests on the inframammary fold, which is where the incision usually is.
Made of microfibre, with a tulle back and centre panel, so it is the cooler of the two models. If you need a stabilising band, it is worn over the top, or you choose the model that already has one built in.
When to wear it
The usual pattern is to wear it day and night for the first month, taking it off only to shower, and then to keep wearing it during the day for a few more weeks. This is a guide: your surgeon will confirm it at your follow-up visit.
What it is like
- Front zip opening.
- Double-layer moulded cups, no underwire.
- Tulle mesh back, highly breathable.
- Adjustable straps that can be crossed; hook-and-eye adjustment at the back.
- 18 sizes: from 80 to 105, cups B, C and D.
Washing and care
By hand or on a delicate cycle, in cold or lukewarm water with mild soap. No bleach, fabric softener, tumble dryer or radiator: heat destroys the elastic, and a garment without elastic no longer compresses. Dry it flat, in the shade. If you are going to wear it 24 hours a day, it is practical to have two.
The size is chosen by measurements, not by the size you wear in clothes. And you measure without pulling the tape tight. If you are between two sizes, tell us before ordering.
Not sure which size to order or how long to wear it? Ask us: the garment and the number of weeks are decided by your surgeon, according to the procedure you have had.
Size guide
For this garment, the underbust measurement is what determines the size.
The size comes from the underbust measurement. The cup comes from a subtraction: the bust measurement at its fullest point, at nipple height, minus the underbust.
| Bust − underbust difference | Cup |
|---|---|
| 14 to 16 cm | B |
| 16 to 18 cm | C |
| 18 to 20 cm | D |
| Size | Underbust | Bust, cup B | Bust, cup C | Bust, cup D |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 80 | 63-67 | 78-82 | 82-85 | 85-88 |
| 85 | 68-72 | 83-87 | 87-90 | 90-93 |
| 90 | 73-77 | 88-92 | 92-95 | 95-98 |
| 95 | 78-82 | 93-97 | 97-100 | 100-103 |
| 100 | 83-87 | 98-102 | 102-105 | 105-108 |
| 105 | 88-92 | 103-107 | 107-110 | 110-113 |
Measurements in centimetres. An example: an underbust of 79 cm and a bust of 96 cm give a 17 cm difference, which makes a 95C.
