Description
Anti-ageing eye cream from SkinCeuticals. It works on the three concerns of the eye area at once—dark circles, puffiness and crow’s feet—starting from glycation.
What it does
Glycation is a real process that is little known outside the clinic: circulating sugars bind to the proteins of the dermis—collagen and elastin—and form advanced glycation end products (A.G.E.) that make them rigid and brittle. It is one of the pathways of skin ageing, separate from sun damage, and it explains why skin can age even when it is well protected.
Proxylane is the brand’s flagship molecule, derived from xylose, aimed at maintaining the integrity of the matrix. Here it is at 7.15%, together with 3% Matrixyl 3000, one of the most studied biomimetic peptides for firmness and elasticity.
The 0.5% caffeine is a vasoconstrictor and acts on puffiness; glycyrrhetinic acid soothes and works on a dull tone; and the optical diffusers give the immediate effect on dark circles.
SkinCeuticals reports, in its own 8-week study, a 23% improvement in wrinkles around the eyes, 24% in puffiness, 20% in dark circles and 18% in crow’s feet.
Who it is for
Dark circles, puffiness and wrinkles around the eyes all at once, especially from 40 onwards. It does not correct a dark circle of structural origin (a tear trough hollow or an established fat pad): that is assessed in consultation.
