Description
1% retinol with depigmenting action from ZO Skin Health. The highest concentration in the line. For skin that is already trained, not for starting out.
What it does
1% retinol is high strength. It only makes sense once the skin has already been through lower concentrations without persistent peeling or stinging: stepping up too early does not speed up the result, it delays it, because it forces you to stop.
The oleosome system—plant lipid vesicles—releases the retinol gradually, which is what makes this dose manageable. Even so, it is a product to be used on a schedule, not freely.
The depigmenting side comes from the retinol itself, which speeds up the removal of pigment already formed, and from ascorbyl glucoside. Bakuchiol comes along as a soothing agent.
Who it is for
Skin trained on retinoids that wants the strongest in the line. It is the highest of the three strengths ZO sells in Spain (0.25%, 0.5% and 1%).
Key ingredients
- Encapsulated retinol 1% — high strength with controlled release
- Oleosome system — slow-release plant lipid vesicles
- Bakuchiol — a conditioning, soothing ingredient that improves tolerance
- Ascorbyl glucoside — a stable vitamin C derivative, working on skin tone
Details from ZO Skin Health’s Spanish portfolio. The full ingredient list (INCI) is the one printed on the pack, and that is the one that counts.
How to use it
At night, on clean, dry skin. Start twice a week, move to alternate days and go up to daily use only if your skin allows it. Sunscreen during the day, without exception.
Contains vitamin A (a retinoid). It is applied at night, and sun protection is essential during the day. Start twice a week and build up as your skin tolerates it. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding: ask your doctor.
Retinol and exfoliating acids, never on the same night: alternate the nights—together they do not add up, they irritate. And on an open or scabbed wound, no retinol until the skin has closed: on an open wound it delays re-epithelialisation (Hung et al., 1989).
