What it does
C E Ferulic is probably the most cited vitamin C serum in dermocosmetics, and its interest lies not only in the ingredients but in the formulation conditions. Duke University’s antioxidant patent, by Dr Pinnell—the brand’s founder—established the three parameters needed for vitamin C to penetrate: pure L-ascorbic acid, an acidic pH between 2.0 and 3.5, and a concentration between 10 and 20%.
The patent’s second contribution was to show that a water-soluble antioxidant such as vitamin C can be combined with a fat-soluble one such as vitamin E, and that together they perform better than separately. Ferulic acid adds a third route and, above all, stabilises the other two.
The brand reports a reduction in oxidative damage from UVA/UVB, pollution and diesel exhaust, and in its 8-week trial 36% fewer wrinkles, 37% more firmness and 44% more radiance.
The serum turning golden or amber is normal and, according to the brand, does not indicate a loss of effectiveness: its tests support activity for 36 months from opening.
Who it is for
Practically any skin from the age of 25-30 that wants the antioxidant with the strongest backing. If your skin is oily or blemish-prone, Silymarin CF is better suited; if pigmentation is your concern, Phloretin CF.

How to use it
In the morning, after cleansing and toning, 4-5 drops on the dry skin of the face, neck and décolletage, before your other products. Finish with sunscreen.
